Description
In this one-day workshop you will learn techniques that will help you to create a successful bezel for an odd shaped gemstone. A bezel is a thin band of metal that surrounds a cabochon and is formed around the edges to hold the stone in place. Shapes reviewed include freeform, square, pear and trillion cut stones. Students will leave class with a deeper understanding of basic metalsmithing practices and either a finished pendant or a sample.
Students are encouraged to bring in an oval and a square or rectangle cabochon gemstone and sterling silver to class for their finished sample/pendant. The instructor will have gemstones, silver and/or brass and copper available for purchase.
