Description
This beginning jewelry series will build upon basic metalsmithing and jewelry making skills; focusing on techniques that do not involve a torch and several that require a torch for annealing metal.
It is a perfect add-on class for students who have taken Beginning Jewelry I. This class series focuses on a variety of technical skills and how to apply those skills to both jewelry and sculpture.
Students will leave each class with a series of finished samples as well as a deeper understanding of basic jewelry practices.
Students can purchase and commit to the full series, OR  purchase only the individual classes they desire.
The full series includes these individual classes:
- Class 1: Ear Wires, Clasps, Jump Rings & Chains
- Class 2: Texture & Patina
- Class 3:Â Forging, Forming & Drawing Down Wire
- Class 4:Â Rivets
Tools: Students are welcome to bring their own hand tools such as files, pliers, hammers and any non-ferrous scrap metal to use for each class.
Students are also encouraged to purchase an inexpensive ball peen hammer or bring in an old hammer from home or Goodwill, etc. that we will modify during Class 2: Texture & Patinas.
Material/Kit fee: allow $5-$15 per class based on materials purchased from instructor. Fee is due in cash to the instructor on the first day of class.
* Non-Ferrous Metals: In general practice, we group the softer metals and alloys as non-ferrous as many tools used are not designed for the harder (ferrous) metals. In metallurgy, non-ferrous metals are Copper, Silver, Gold, Tin, Zinc, Nickel, Aluminum, Titanium, Palladium, Niobium, Platinum, Lead. This also includes alloys that do not contain iron (ferrite) in appreciable amounts such as Brass, Bronze, Pewter, and more.
