9/5/21 Faceted Setting Series: Class 4 – Traditional Basket Setting

Requires a Minimum of 2 participants.
Students will learn how to create in the traditional style of a basket setting out of sterling silver wire. Basket settings have prongs that hold the gemstone in place and utilize a horizontal band at the base of the setting to support the gemstone, this horizontal band is what created the basket. This class builds upon skills learned in the Simple Basket Setting class and focuses on creating traditional basket settings for a variety of gemstone shapes including marquis, pear, oval, square, etc. Current maximum number of students is 4, masks required. However, class maximum may vary depending upon covid restrictions.
Material Fee: $10-25 based upon materials purchased from instructor

Date & Time:Â Sunday, Sept 5, 2021, 11am-6pm
Materials: Students should bring a sketchbook or notebook and a pencil for notes and drawings as well as 1 completed silver ring band to set stone on top of. Students are welcome to bring a small faceted stone to set, size between 4-8mm round. However, the instructor will provide 1- 5mm cubic zirconia stone, stone setting bur(s), & 18g sterling silver wire in materials kit. Please also bring a bagged lunch or snacks.
Prerequisites: Beginning Jewelry & EITHER Silversmithing 101 or be able to create 1 finished silver ring band before class. Ring can be either made in 14g or 12g round wire or 6mm wide band out of 18g. Students are welcome to email the instructor with questions.
