Faceted Stone Series: Class 5-Flush Setting

Requires a Minimum of 2 participants.

Students will learn how to create a flush setting and then practice it over and over again creating samples and a final wearable ring. A flush setting is a setting where a is drilled, and shaped allowing the stone to sit flush with the top of the metal. Once set the top of the stone sits “flush” with the top of the metal or the band of the ring. Students are encouraged to bring a broken burr and pinvise to create the tool for setting the stones. They are also encouraged to bring a finished ring band created in 16g to set stones in once they feel confident with their new skill.

Date & Time:  Sunday, August 15, 2021, 11am-6pm

Materials: Students should bring a sketchbook or notebook and a pencil for notes and drawings as well as 1 completed silver ring band to set stone on top of and a broken burr or drill bit. Please also bring a bagged lunch or snacks. The instructor will provide several cubic zirconia gemstones, stone setting bur(s), pin vise & copper sheet in materials kit. And will have several broken burrs available for modification. Please also bring a bagged lunch or snacks

Prerequisites: Beginning Jewelry & EITHER Silversmithing 101 or be able to create 1 finished ring band before class. Ring should be made out of 16g sheet metal. Students are welcome to email the instructor with questions.
