Fast Track* – Advanced: Step-Bezel Ring
Plus $30-50 Material/kit fee (depending on your needs) payable in cash to the instructor on the first day of class. Additional materials may also be available from the instructor.
As an integral part of your design, a hand-built raised setting with a step-bezel is a great option for a faceted gem, like an emerald-cut Blue Topaz, or a thinner or smaller cabochon. Using either gem options, you will leave this two-day advanced fast track class with an understanding of the technique and a finished piece.
This will be a two-day, advanced class to help you explore a new bezel technique for a ring. A bezel is a band of metal, Sterling Silver or Fine Silver, which is formed around the edge of the stone to hold it in place. Usually, it is made as a box bezel with a flat piece of metal supporting the flat cabochon and connecting the bezel and the ring. In this class, the bezel will be an integral part of your design. We will fabricate a step-bezel to form a raised setting for your chosen cabochon or faceted gem. This requires careful measuring and fine motor skills. We will cover how to choose and fabricate the correct bezels for your gems. The ideal choice for this type of setting is a shallow cabochon or a faceted gem, like an emerald-cut shape. Some gems will be available from the instructor as needed.
