Description

Students will learn how to create 3-dimensional forms using a circular locket or pendant as the basis of their design. We will utilize tools such as the dapping block, rolling mill, hammers. This workshop will revolve around basic metalsmithing skills learned in this class, such as sweat soldering, soldering multiple layers in a form, creating a hollow form, setting tube rivets, and more.

Along with learned metalsmithing skills, we will review important design principles and motivations behind each student’s project. Using a locket or pendant as our vehicle, we will discuss how to tell a story through imagery, texture, etc. or simply learn how to create a space for photos and/or imagery. Please note that depending on your individual work pace, you may need to finish locket outside of class time, although we anticipate that students should be able to finish locket during class time.
